What is Gratuity (EOSB)?
Gratuity is money your employer must pay when you leave your job. It's also called "end-of-service benefits" (EOSB). It serves as a thank you for your service and a financial bridge while you transition to your next opportunity.
Key Facts
- You earn it if you work 1 year or more
- It is calculated based on your basic salary only
- It is your legal right protected by UAE labour law
* This calculator works for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and all UAE emirates, following Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.

Does It Matter How You Leave?
Yes. If you resign early, you may get less. Separation cause matters.
| Years Worked | Resigned | Terminated |
|---|---|---|
| Under 1 year | No Gratuity | No Gratuity |
| 1 – 3 years | 1/3 of gratuity | Full gratuity |
| 3 – 5 years | 2/3 of gratuity | Full gratuity |
| 5+ years | Full gratuity | Full gratuity |
Good News: After 5 years of service, you are entitled to full gratuity regardless of whether you resign or are terminated.
Important Rules to Know

Example:
Basic salary: AED 10,000/month

Even if you work for 30 years, this is the legal limit.
Your employer may reduce or deny gratuity if you:
- Resign without serving the notice period (usually 30–90 days)
- Are terminated for serious misconduct (Article 44 of Labour Law)
- Violate non-compete clauses or other key contract terms
Gratuity is calculated on your basic salary only.
